What We Do
Studies show that contact with pets can lower blood pressure and reduce stress. Companions Inc. has been providing pet therapy to patients at many places in Fairbanks for over 30 years. Some of the places you’ll find us are Denali Center, The Pioneer’s Home, FRA, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, the Northstar Council on Aging (aka the Senior Center) and more.
In August we hold Run With A Friend, a chance to take a lovely walk by the Chena river and help raise money for Companions. We also participate in events held by others, such as Read To The Dogs at Barnes and Noble, the Mutt March, and the Christmas gift event with Love INC.
Every May we hold Pet Awareness Day, which includes a huge silent auction, booths, many dogs and other pets, a variety of demonstrations such as dog rehab, grooming, K9 training and more. It’s a big day and lots of fun for both guests and our volunteers.
Companions Inc. is 100% volunteer. The Board of Directors meets monthly and members are welcome to attend the meetings.
